What is this?

I just got a huge bag full of this stuff, but I’m not sure what It is, it doesn’t look like its ready to knit with, but I could be wrong…

I can’t be sure from that pic, but it looks like it might be pencil roving.

what does one do with pencil roving? is it for spinning?

I did a quick search and found this
on eBay.
And I saw mention of it on someone’s blog, here.

apparently you are supposed to knit with all the strands at once… so it’s probably as bulky gauge yarn HTH

do you think i could knit fiber trends clogs with it?
my grandma gave me about 20 of them, and there is more coming in the mail

It’s unspun wool, and it’s for knitting. You could knit with any number of the strands, like single ply for lace, etc. Kind of reminds me of the Unspun Icelandic wool I’m using for an afghan right now.

20 of them? That would be enough for many 2 or 3 ply sweaters or a few afghans. But, remember to knit carefully or it will come apart, but once it’s knitted up it’s really strong and warm.

i think I will give the fiber trend clogs a go with this stuff and see what happens. You are right about it not being very strong until it’s knitted Do you think its possible to wind it into balls?

I wouldn’t. The Icelandic wool I’m using (which has a very long staple) wouldn’t hold together through ball winding, but it should be ready to knit as it is.
