What is this stitch called?

I just finished a scarf in a knit 3 purl 1 stitch ending with a knit stitch, I got this off some site and I can’t remember what the stitch is called :??, I thought it was called a broken rib but I have searched this but the stitches are not the same. I can’t remember how many stitches I cast on now that I have casted it off and it is finished
Can anyone help me as I want to knit another scarf in the same pattern but don’t know how many stitches to cast on.

It could be a 3x1 rib stitch, but if all rows are k3, p1, that wouldn’t work. Have you looked up scrunchable scarf? It’s sort of a broken rib stitch.

I just checked that out but is is a knit 2 and purl 1, I am thinking now I might have gotten it from Aboutknitting.com in the stitch of the week but I can’t remember how long ago.
thanks for your help,
Diane

It could be a broken rib if it was k3, p1 on the front and purl across the back.

Hi Ingrid: Nope it is the same stitches done on both sides, knit 3, purl 1 then end with knit 1, My scarf came out really great but I don’t know how to count the stitches now that I have cast it off :wall:
I have just sent an e-mail to Sarah at Aboutknitting.com to ask her if it was one of the stitch of the week stitches. here’s hopin Yikes!!
thanks for your help,
Diane

It’s easy enough to count the sts. On the BO edge; each ( > would be one st.

Hey my hubby just came up with this, if it is knit 3 and then purl 1 and you end the row with a k stitch wouldn’t it be a multiple of 5 stitches?? So it could be cast on 10,15,20,25 and so on; is this right?

No, the knit 1 is a leftover. I’d go with a multiple of 4 (k3,p1) +1. So 13, 17, 21, 25…

Thank you!!!:muah:

I finally found out what this stitch is, I was looking through my binder that I have photo copied stitch patterns in and found it there, it is called BATTERSEA and the notes say it is a really old stitch. I can’t believe I had it under my nose the whole time LOL!!!

Can you post a photo of this stitch? Or exact directions? I’m not familiar with it and very curious! Thanks!
