What is this hem method called?

Hello
I’m hoping someone can name this technique and also tell me how to modify the stitch count to create an even number of stitches resulting with 1 x 1 rib for seaming
RS row (K1, P1) to last 2 sts K2
So that two pieces made the same and seamed with result in an even 1 x 1 rib hem.
The pattern below (edited to reduce) has only odd numbers and K2 at each end for a split hem

RIBBING
With scrap yarn cast on
48 (52) sts.
Knit 2 rows and break yarn.
Change to main yarn and knit 3 rows of stockinette.
Next row (wrong side): P1, insert right needle under
the lower bar, worked with the main colour 3 rows
down (between last st on right needle and first st on left
needle), pick up the bar and place it on LH needle, purl
the new st and the next st together through back loop,
insert RH needle under the lower bar and knit a new
st, p1
, repeat from * to * to last 2 sts, knit the bar,
slip next st, insert RH needle under the lower bar and
place it on LH needle, place slipped st onto LH needle
and purl this st together with the new st, p1 = 93 (101) sts.

1st row (RS): k2, p1, k1, repeat from * to * to last
st, k1.
2nd row: p2, k1, p1, repeat from * to * to last st,
p1.
Repeat 1st and 2nd row until the ribbing measures
3 (3) cm.
Finish with a wrong side row, break yarn and gently cut
off the scrap yarn.

It makes a rolled/tube at the bottom of the rib and matches italian bind off.

Thanks

This is one kind of hemmed cast on. You can work it in rib or stockinette. The RS row in your example has an even number of sts so you could start with k1p1 then repeat (k1p1) across? If you don’t have an even number you could increase or decrease in an earlier row to get there.

The Italian cast on is simpler in that you don’t have to pick up sts making sure you don’t miss a stitch as you work.

I like Roxanne Richardson’s technique using any cast on. The Italian cast on does roll and become difficult (if not impossible) to sort out even on straight needles.

I used the method i psted on my previous sweater and want to us it again on my next project. I uite liked it ih the scrap yarn and picking up the stitches from the rows below and startig the rib on that row, the way the pattern has it.
Is it just called a hemmed cast on, this method?
I was hoping to find a video of the same method to see if it can be made into an even number of stitches.

The stitch count in my pattern begins with an even number on the stockinette section but then when the stitches are picked up and the rib starts there’s a stitch each end that is worked together with another stitch, I’m not sure why, what it does to the result, and the resulting stitch count is an odd number wheras I need an even number for my rib.
