What is that big hole doing in my cables?

hi, i am working on my first sweater and my first cables (woohoo! :cheering: ). i’ve watched the video on cableling many times and i am doing everything according to the video but after i am done i keep getting these holes in the part where my cables cross. is this normal and could i try tightening things up a bit (the way we do with lose stitches) or will the holes somehow minimize as the sweater gets worn and washed?

thanks!

It’s common to have gaps on the sides of the cables because the stitches are stretched out there. As you make them, try to keep your needles as close together as you can and your yarn taut.

And after you have some more length, then wash/block your piece, the holes will get smaller.
