I have never seen anyone knit in my life and have decided to try and learn through the internet. I printed a pattern but I have no clue what I am doing. I think I have managed to knit the first rows correctly but now I have come to a change in the pattern and don’t know what to do. It says k4, * k3, p3 * … could someone please help me understand that row? I really appreciate it!
When you see an * in a pattern, you repeat everything that’s after it, either until the next one, or to the end of the row. So you would work that row as K4, k3, p3, k3, p3, k3, p3, etc…

Do you know anything about music? This * to * is like the repeat with the 2 points in music charts.
Have you seen the tab up top on this page? There are “free videos” about a lot of stuff in knitting. There you find a lot of stuff, like “k” = knit stitch and how to do it. p = purl stitch and how to do it.
The 2 stitches (knit and purl) are surely the most important for you to learn.
And the “demo of a small project” you find in the videos. You may want to watch that to see how things progress in a flowing motion. 
K4 means knit 4, and then * means to repeat from this to the specified spot. This could be until the end of the row, or to the next *
