What is "begin at lower edge"?

I’m trying to start a pattern that says: “leave a 40-inch tail of yarn for finishing. Begin at lower edge and cast on 116 stitches”

What does it mean to begin at the lower edge? (and the lower edge of what ?)

This is a pattern for a children’s cap if that helps.

What does it mean to begin at the lower edge? (and the lower edge of what ?)

I would rather look at the pattern before i answer this…but…
It is my assumption that they are telling you that you are starting at the lower edge. Sometimes a pattern will tell you that …so ill rewrite that instruction for you…

“leave a 40-inch tail of yarn for finishing. cast on 116 stitches to begin the lower edge of the cap”

Hope this helps

Ah yes, that makes sense, so I hope you’re right =). Thanks so much!

It’s mostly for information to let you know you’re going to be starting at the bottom of the item rather than at the top.
