What does this mean?

Hi all!

I’m very new to knitting, but I really like it. This may be a silly question, but what does it mean to “turn your work”? I thought that when you’re knitting, you just switch hands/needles once all stitches are off the needle. I’ve read “turn your work” in some patterns, but I don’t get it. Could anyone help me understand this? Thanks so much!

Another way of saying the same thing. When you knit the first row and put the full needle in your left hand (if you’re knitting right-handed) you’ll be looking at the back of the work, so it’s “turned.”
