What does this mean ?

I am just about to knit the next part of the pattern, but I cannot understand what it means when it says rib1 & then rib2 together! I have looked on YouTube but there was no videos demonstrating these stitches.

Thank you

Hello
This instruction often happens at the transition row between a rib hem or cuff and then the main fabric of a piece which might be stockinette or another stitch pattern.
All it means it to work the rib pattern as you have been doing but to work 2 stitches together in certain places to change the stitch count.
If for instance you are working 2 x 2 rib, k2, p2, k2, p2, then for rib 1, rib 2 together, would be k1, work the next 2 stitches (a knit and a purl) together, then continue your rib working purl over purl and knit over knit until you get to the place for the next decrease.

In this transition row it probably doesn’t matter too much if you k2tog or p2tog because the stitch pattern is going to change anyway. What matters is maintaining the rib pattern between the decreases.

If I have a 2 x 2 rib I like to move the decreases into the p2 columns and use p2tog because I think it’s a neater finish but this can take a bit of working out so it depends if you want to follow the pattern as it is or an extra challenge of a slight modification.
If it is 1 x 1 rib, k1 p1 k1 p1, I would k2tog wherever the decreases are.

I hope this helps
If it’s still not clear do say.
What pattern are you making?
