Example (for a dishcloth)
Cast on in Muliples of 4 + 2
(so 10, 14, 18, 22,…)
until desired width of dishcloth.
I’m trying to find a nice pattern for one of the charity baby blankets and there are lots available in dishcloths but I don’t undertsand how to figure out if I’d be able to use it with the number of stitches we do on the blanket (130 cast on, 3 knit at the beginning and end of each row, so 124 stitches for the pattern).
The stitch pattern itself would be a multple of X sts, plus y, then add the edge stitches to it. If you wanted to use the pattern in your example above, you would need to CO 128 or 132 sts.
A ‘multiple’ is the number of stitches in each repeat of the pattern. The ‘plus’ number is often the number of stitches at the edge to make the pattern work.
If you need to adjust the number of stitches for a certain size you add or subtract the ‘multiple’ from your total. The ‘plus’ stitches always remain the same.
