I’ve decided to try something different with the sport weight alpaca yarn. Instead of making a hat and a scarf I am going to try a very long hat that you can wrap the top around your neck so that it’s basically a hat and scarf together in a single piece.
I have no idea how such a thing will wind up looking but I figure it’ll definitely be different.
YOu used to see these back in the late 50’s early 60’s - and in some Currier and Ives pictures…Usually about long enough to reach almost the waist - some were longer.
I’m thinking of doing one - but with a sock foot instead of a tassel on the end.
it’s an awesome idea Mason. They look really cool. (You’re just not the first to have it! nuts!) Check Rav–here’s onehttp://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/nomad-hat-and-scarf
You can just do one of your awesome hats to go with it… And I’ll model it for you!
Thanks. That nomad hat looks nice, but is almost the exact opposite of what I have in mind. I am thinking about making the top of the hat really long so that it can be wrapped around the neck. Almost like a really long sleeping cap sort of thing.
It’s wrong, but I keep getting the image of the little brother in Christmas Story with that hugely long stripey hat.:teehee: Not what you had in mind, I’m pretty sure. But I think something like that would be awesome in in nice pattern, nice yarn, no stripes … Good luck with it!
Check the patterns at knitlist.com - I’m sure I’ve seen a pattern for something like it, though some of them don’t have pictures they may have a description.
