What do you think about this yarn substitution?

Thinking about doing the sweater from the cover of the current Creative Knitting…but without the embroidery.

The yarn they recommend is this…

Kertzer Super 10 which according to the pattern gauges at 20 st/4 inches on the larger needle (size 6/4 mm recommended). Found it at Herrschner’s for 9.99 for a 250 yard hank, my size would probably take 4 to 5 hanks, so about 50 bucks. I believe this is a DK yarn.

What about using KP Shine? I think it’s sport weight, so a tad bit thinner, but their gauge is 6 st/1 inch on size 3 to 5 needles. If I upped the needle size, it should be closer to the above gauge. It would take 12 balls to be on the safe side, coming to $27.48.

Think it’s close enough in gauge? Any other ideas?

Well I just finished a top using Shine, and I wouldn’t want to use anything much bigger than a size 5 needle with it. The fabric would just be a bit too loose. You don’t really want your sweater to be see-through, right?

It calls itself a dk/worsted weight yarn, so it’s between the two.

Another site called in dk, and a third called it worsted.

At 20 st per 4 inches, I’d look at worsted, because I also think that dk would make a too loose fabric. If you can find something that calls itself light worsted that would be about the same.
