It’s knit in stockinette, so it has a rolled edge at the bottom, which I like. I could mimick the k2p2 ribbing on the sleeve edges, but that would change the shape of the sweater, making it taper in at the waist. If I pick up and knit, the stitches will be going the wrong way…
My best idea is to create a totally separate piece that’s 2-3" long and graft it on–that way, all the stitches will be facing up. My concerns are these:
if the rolled edge rolls up too much, you’ll be able to see the seam on the underside
every time I graft using an edge that’s been bound off, it looks weird. If all the stitches are still live, the graft looks awesome. But when I’m doing, say, bound-off shoulder edges, the graft looks stretched out and slightly crooked.
Any idea how to fix that? Or anyone have a better idea altogether? :??
I’ve added ribbing to make a sweater longer and it worked well, but if you don’t like that idea, you might try to pick up and knit–I don’t think you’ll notice the stitches going the wrong way, but you might notice where you picked up.
What you can try, too, is to take out the cast on and pick up the live stitches from there and either knit down or graft. You’d probably do well to put in a life line–finding a ‘destination row’ in Amy’s fixing mistakes video, and then you take out the cast on and you’ll have your stitches ready to go.
That’s a good idea–I didn’t realize I could rip out the cast on. I’ll start surfing the videos. Does it sound like I’m doing something wrong with my grafting re: bound off edges? Or does everyone else’s do that, too?
