What do I do with knit 2 [6,10] rows

I’m getting to where I can do more difficult patterns now and I’ve come across this a few time. What do I do? The only thing I can find is that you should do whatever is in the [] however many times as specified but I can’t figure out what that really means. Please help!

Usually stuff in brackets is there because there’s more than one size the pattern offers. The smallest size is outside the brackets, with the first one in the brackets being medium, next large, etc. Likewise, if they used numbered sizes, it’s the same, only the small may be a size 5, the medium a 7 and the large a 9… the only time you would do repeats is if there’s stuff in parenthesis… it would go like this: (k2, p1, m1) three times, k5. That’s how they show that you have to repeat something (that’s not actually from a pattern, just randomly made up for an example). Check near the top of the pattern… I bet it has a small, medium and large size somewhere around where it lists the stuff you need.

^^^^^^^^It will usually have some text near the top of the pattern (as mentioned before) that looks like this S[M,L]…so if you want to make a small, only use the numbers outside the brackets, if you want to make a medium, only use the numbers that are near the left bracket, and so on.
