I really don’t want to spend any more money on this hobby. :shrug: I do not have one of those wheel chairs either that people have used as subsitutes for swifts and don’t have the tools to make my own swift and really don’t have the space for a swift. How do those of you in this position wind your yarn? Thanks in advance for responses.
Drap it over your arm :shrug: or just use the back of a chair, someone’s hands …
I have used a chair. I simply lift off a few turns, wind them, and repeat. It’s not as fast though.

I have heard of people putting the hank of yarn around a lamp shade, loosening the shade so it will turn and then winding the yarn. I haven’t tried it.
I’ve used the back of a chair, and my steering wheel for smaller hanks. I was waiting for my kid to be done with a b’day party, and just sat in the car and wound… I’ve seen lots of tutorials for making them on the cheap.
I have a round laundry basket that I lay upside down on the floor and put my yarn around it.
I need to try this trick!
Before I got my swift DH would turn the crank and I would hold the yarn.
I use my husband. He holds the yarn and I wind it. 
I tried that, but he would fall asleep (I let him lay on the couch with his hands up) and drop the yarn creating an awful mess :pout:
Bribe a child to hold it for you. :teehee:

maybe you could pick up a swift from joann’s with a 40% coupon?
