What are your "mindless knitting" projects?

Oddball Blankets!!!

There are regional groups here and on Rav, and we make baby blankets for charity. Each knitter only knits a 4" strip (usually 90-110 stitches wide), then you send it along to the next knitter. The stitch pattern does not need to be complicated, even plain ole garter looks great!

These are great for using up acrylic in your stash and for trying out a new stitch pattern (even if you don’t like it, you are only doing it for 4"). Plus you are helping to make something wonderful for a child in need.

Check out the KH Charity Forum for tips, tricks, and regional threads!

The Oddball Afghans are a great idea!

I third the dishcloths vote! Those are my favorite mindless knitting projects. In fact I have one OTN now that I’m almost done with. I recently noticed that several of my hand-knit dishcloths have sprouted holes (ACK!) and I think my new 10-yr-old dishwasher may be the culprit…Ah, well, at least I know I have plenty of cotton yarn to replace or repair them with :teehee:

In fact I bought some new cotton yarn just yesterday, along with some sock yarn, at Hobby Lobby (not like I don’t already have a bit, but they were so purdy!).

I am just finishing binding off my first pair of toe-up-two-at-a-time pair of red worsted weight socks. I used Swish from Knit Picks. I definitely had to concentrate a LOT~but they’re only my second pair. I personally can’t imagine SOCKS ever becoming mindless knitting for me, I am in awe of those of you who do!

My go-to project for mindless knitting is cotton dishcloths. The other easy knitting I like to do is a garter stitch scarf. I ususally have one or both of these projects in my knitting bag - they’re so easy to grab and go - for doctor’s offices, car trips, coffee shop etc.

I agree about the Oddball blankets, especially the pet snuggles because they are garter stitch. I just started participating and it’s wonderful, helping children and animals while doing my favorite hobby!

I also make ribbed scarves as gifts, and they are pretty mindless. Pretty much anything with an easily memorized pattern repeat, and no complicated shaping, is mindless knitting for me.

dishcloths, the boring foot of a sock, and felted bags where over a 100 rounds are all SS.

A very simple, ribbed sock.

I knit socks without a fancy design in them mindlessly while I watch tv.

My mindless knitting is the easy sock nothing with a pattern. I always have one on the needles just in case. Great take alongs also when waiting in Doctors, Dentist offices.

I spend a lot of time making 6x9 inch rectangles for a chrity. I can watch tv and not even have to look at my hands. I’m also working on my blanket which I can also do when watchin tv.

My mindless knitting project, i am shamed to say, is just a mitered square. i just learned how to knit one, so now i can’t stop. that is all the special knitting i do really. but i love to do it all the same.

That’s when I get most of my HAP 6x9’s done too.

loved the transition from batt, to yarn to scarf!! I’ll be making this one for sure! Thank you for posting.

I loved your photos, showing the transition from batt to yarn to knitted scarf. It’s beautiful, and a pattern I’ll be using. Thank you…

I have been knitting this lapghan for 2 months (began in the KAL seamless blanket thread) and it’s pretty mindless for me now. I stopped making the log cabin square and was intending to end it, but decided it needed more length, so on one side, I’ve been just knitting stripes, to make it longer. (see them on the bottom? - where the ball and needles are still attached…)

The other day, I was knitting it in the car in the dark, and didn’t make a single mistake. I can knit in the dark!

Hats and socks as long as I am not turning the heel of doing something with cables or patterns. I keep a couple of these type projects going to I can grab and go. I have to admit even at my knitting group I can get to talking or listening and throw myself on a difficult pattern type project.

An easy hat is always great for mindless knitting. Either a simple rolled brim hat or an easy beret.
