I’m very new but have watched some videos and was doing ok on my practices. I decided last night to start a new practice square and I CANNOT get the long tail cast on anymore. I was doing it no problem now I can’t. I watch the video and do exactly like I’m supposed to but it doesn’t stay looped on the needle - just pulls off.
Well, you could try one of the knitted cast ons, if you like. I’d avoid the backward loop, though. It’s too loose.
Maybe pictures would be better for you? http://www.butlercountryknit.com/longtail.pdf
Thanks! I’ll try the pics tomorrow. I’m going to bed.
It so frustrating since I was doing it just fine now I can’t do it to save my life!
You’ll get there. You wouldn’t be able to play Moonlight Sonata after your first piano lesson, would you?
I think in the video of the long tail cast on they don’t begin with a slip knot and that is a bit trickier. I try to do it that way myself sometimes and I forget how it works or can’t get it to work. Try starting with a simple slip knot and then doing the long tail cast on from there. That may help.
You might try a two handed method. Loop the tail yarn around the thumb of the left hand, and ‘knit’ with the right hand using the working yarn. That one’s shown in the thumb variation video.
