I am a continental knitter who is having a serious problem knitting continental on this blanket. On the rows that have YO then knit 2 together all the way across I have to use English knitting. I’ve tried and tried but cannot knit them continental. I’m not anywhere near as neat with English knitting as continental so those rows are not looking as good as the rest of the blanket. Help! :wall:
One thing I’ve done in this situation is to hold the yarn-over tightly back against the right-hand needle so it doesn’t get confused with the knit 2 tog. Hope this helps (another Continental knitter).
I’m a Continental knitter too. I do the same thing Tinker does. I hold the yarn over strand to the top of the right hand needle with my right index finger as I work the K2tog. It shouldn’t be real hard to do a K2tog in this sort of situation.
The only other thing would be if you are a real tight knitter, then it could be harder.
Having to do it English would be a problem all right. I have resorted to English for some weird situations too, not fun. Let us know if you get this figured out so that it is easier. Good luck.
I also knit using the continental method, and I yarn over and insert the needle in the two stitches to be worked together. I then use my middle finger of my left hand to ‘wrap’ the yarn around the needles and this makes it so much easier for me to work the K 2 tog.
Do you know if you’re having trouble keeping the YO straight or the k2tog- or both?
I do both of what people are saying. When I YO I hold the YO against the back of the right needle with the index finger of my right hand. Then the k2tog I can sometimes scoop like a regular stitch but if it’s tight- I slide it more to the pointy bit of the needle and put my left finger behind it to keep it put and scoop it off that finger w/ the needle…or I wrap it over the needle like Braden does (over the right needle & under the left with my left middle finger.)
Sometimes hollering “you get through there, you stupid little stitch” helps too. Doesn’t everyone talk to their knitting? :out:
OMG! Why couldn’t I think of wrapping it around the left needle? That made it so much easier! And yes I yell at my knitting too.
