What a dork! How do I READ my knitting?

I have now learned to PURL, yay! and I do pretty well unless I make a mistake–but when I do, I get stuck. I ended up with an extra stitch at the end of a row of ribbing, and I tried to unravel it a little to see what I had done and how to fix it, and I am now completely lost. Is there any help for such a thing?

Here is a link that shows how to fix common mistakes. It’s about 1/3 of the way down the page, called 'fixing mistakes’

The knit stitches are v’s and the purl stitches are bumps–as they face you.
