West Coast / Central Oddball Baby Blankets

Yep, Surf and Sand is now officially on the move to Washington. It’s raining here as I mail it and will probably be raining there when it arrives. But we need the rain, so it’s okay. Confirmation Number is 0305 1720 0000 0035 0781. Happy knitting :knitting:

I received Surf and Sand today. Thanks so much, Kris, for the note cards. I really like them.

Attention West Coast Oddball Knitters:

I am coordinator of the Northeast Oddball worsted weight baby blankets. Two days ago I mentioned to my Northeast Oddballers that I have some DK/sport weight acrylic yarn ideal for preemie baby blankets that I’d like to donate to anyone in our group who can use it. This is part of my destashing project, and I’m anxious to help find my DK/sportweight yarn a good home.

So far, no one in the Northeast group has taken me up on my offer, so I thought I would offer my DK/sport yarn to anyone in the West Coast Oddball group (coordinated by my dear Virtual friend, Auburnchick). If I don’t get any “takers,” I will put my offer on Yarncycle tomorrow.

If interested, please send me a PM and I will mail the box out to you early in the week.

Many thanks!

Hi all!

Since some of you are new, I thought I would tell you that there is a thread on the Charity forum that lists suggested yarns for our projects.

Shandeh recently updated the list with another yarn she discovered. Here’s the PM she sent me regarding this:

Just wanted to let you know that I added a new yarn to the list of recommended yarns for regular baby blankets.

http://www.knittinghelp.com/forum/sh…46&postcount=4

The yarn I added is Red Heart Kids. I had never used it before until recently, and was VERY pleased with how soft it felt, and how well it knit up. Now, I’m looking for it to be on sale! I really love to knit with it.

It should work perfectly for the regular worsted weight oddball baby blankets.

My section of Fruity Pebbles is complete and ready to go to the next knitter. :cheering: If I get the address early enough I may be able to send it off by tomorrow.

Here’s how it’s looking now:

With a close-up (it’s a bit blurry, but it gives you a better idea about the patterns used!):

Ok…that is an ADORABLE blanket!

I just LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the colors you ladies are using for it!!! Makes me want to buy a box of the cereal!!!

Wsnels just posted this picture of Lollipop:

Was in the my mailbox today. I will have to go get some neon blue for my section. All the blue yarn I have is not “neon” enough". Thank you Janet for the Kitty pin cushion. Nanna

You Are My Sunshine arrived today. Thanks for the goodies, Becky! Put a smile on my face after a long, long day at work

So I have a question, why does everyone include a little swatch of yarn after they finish off their section? I did too but I didn’t know why! Also, why is there a little section at the beginning of some blankets? In example, on fruity pebbles, in the beginning there’s that little section of multi-colored yarn. What is that for?

I was just curious

There’s a little bit of yarn left over from the last section so that you can tie on your yarn for your section. Ideally, each knitter will weave in the ends of the start of their section so that the border person doesn’t have to go back and do all of that.

Some blankets were started by me. I didn’t want to take the place of a knitter, so I only knit a small section…just to get the blankets started. It was my thought that we could incorporate some of that yarn into the blankets (I think I sent those yarns along). Most people have used their own, though.

Here are a couple of pictures of Flower Power…posted by Kaniger on Ravelry:

What a lovely blanket!!!

Ooh how cool, Flower Power looks great! I’m really curious to learn what stitch patter everyone used for it. Especially the blue section, way cool design!

Oh! Good to know!! I think other people weren’t too sure either because there was just these little balls of yarn at the end of everyone’s… anyways, I’ll fix it before I send Fruity Pebbles along so the border-er doesn’t have to do any extra work. Fruity Pebbles should be sent out by tomorrow morning, God Willing.

Yeah, I just left my section since that’s what others had done and I’m new. I thought something I had read said someone would do them all at the end but maybe I read wrong.

The pattern is Pavilion. Takes several rows to start looking like anything, but I really like the end result!

I was very surprised when I got a box in the mail and Friday and it was a beautiful oddball shawl for my daughter! I was able to take it to her on Easter Sunday and she loved it!! She said that she could really use it as she is cold alot now. What a perfect gift. Thank you all who worked on it and sent it to me. You are all wonderful!!

My daughter starts her 2nd round of chemotherapy on Monday. So far her blood work looks good.

Fruity Pebbles was sent off today to Danielle in CA. Confirmation number: 0308 3390 0001 0935 0204

Oh and just in case anyone was wondering. Today I asked about shipping prices. They said for the packages sent priority mail (you can get free envelopes from usps.com http://shop.usps.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10152&storeId=10001&categoryId=13354&productId=11695&langId=-1&WT.ac=11695) it is $4.95 for the first pound ANYWHERE in the USA, + .65 for delivery confirmation = TOTAL $5.60. Over 2 lbs they will go by weight and distance. Also, they have small roughly VHS sized boxes that you can get for free too that are flat rate of $4.95 IF you can cram a blanket in there. Anyways, wanted to let you guys know some of your options.

The ladies in the Oddball Shawl group made it. Shandeh was kind enough to offer it when I asked if any were available. I have a friend who finished chemotherapy in November, and I remember how cold she was during those long months.

It’s great to hear that your daughter’s bloodwork is looking good. I will continue praying for all of you…
