Welcome to the KnittingHelp forum! ...Introduce yourself!

Welcome Debbi! Wow, what a productive year. Happy to have you here. We’re glad to help with questions and advice and we’d love to see your finished projects, too.

My name is Sally Bode, early 60s, knitted from about age 7 as taught by my mother who was a thrower or used English Style. She did not actually throw the yarn, she just stretched to complete the stitch which I do also, though sometimes use flicking on long sections of stockinette.

I was doing sweaters in Fair Isle by my teens so had learned also the knit stitch for Continental though had no idea anyone knit left handed.

Gave up knitting for a time but now am back at my hobby which I am loving and having so much fun with. I used resources on the internet to also learn several other knitting styles in order to find more comfortable knitting to keep my hands from hurting. I was a tight knitter. Now I work at staying looser to keep my hands from hurting due to age related arthritis.

So most of the time I am knitting in the round or on circulars though I do still like my straight needles. I am a fan of bamboo, think it helped in restoring more function to my hands. I have found for me that knitting with an Eastern European hand hold is the most beneficial in keeping my hands from hurting. I do use sometimes the Combined purl when knitting cables and don’t use a cable needle if I can get away from it. Also I love to knit lace. Not all knitting styles have the same tension, when my hands tire, I also knit backwards in a compatible knitting style. There is a Combined style for lefties and it works perfect when I knit backwards such as in making heels of socks or Entrelac.

So long as you get good results and you are enjoying your knitting, how you knit is up to you. If I switch things around when I knit, it keeps projects more interesting. Alas, unfinished projects is a common knitting dilemma for us all.

I enjoy learning new techniques, am a fan of Magic Loop.

We have three sons, two are married, the oldest has one son. We live in the California high desert.

I am a graphic artist by trade.

Glad to meet you all.

Sally

from one high desert-er and graphic designer to another, welcome! sounds like you’ll be a treasure trove of information!

Thanks for the welcome. Didn’t think to introduce myself before. Oops. :knitting:

Well when one is creative on one realm, creativity pours over into the next also as well as the satisfaction of making something unique and one of a kind. I got tired of posting on art forums as to keep doing artwork on my own time is like never stopping working.

In about everything I do, I look for a new technique to employ or how to solve another problem.

You are in the inspiration for my newest brain teaser: the making of a real rounded toe. I have tried to make it look like my top down rounded toes I did in making Christmas stockings. So now I am guessing that I can make a provisional cast on for the toe and knit the toe top to bottom as I learned on the Christmas Stocking for everyone in the family (what an ambitious project, will have to post pics to Ravelry with corresponding links here, think you’d like them). It is going to drive me nuts until I find the work around.

I have definitely come up with a nicer looking toe in the process, and thanks for your input. I have an evolution of knitting worsted bed socks as I try out new toe techniques. Usually never knit for myself. But cold winter nights of Lancaster, CA with the cold floors of a slab foundation… my socks are worn a lot. Wear clogs with them. When I get to the end of my experiments, I may make a YouTube video explaining what I did differently that the Cat Bordhi technique.

Good to meet you too. As well, you will also be a source of great information.:woot:

Hi. Just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Lacey. I’m a homemaker and mom to a darling son, William. I spin, knit, crochet, tat, make jewelry, and all sorts of other fun bits. I look forward to sharing with everyone here!!!

Hi Lacej and welcome! You do all sorts of fun things in addition to knit and crochet. Glad to have you join the forum and I hope to see photos of your projects in the future.

I haven’t posted a lot as I have many projects I am working on as I am a graphic artist by trade and when I can work, I do. When I am not, I investigate other ways to knit which is part of the therapy I need to have the full use of my hands.

That is the most important part, the other is the mental stimulation, my dad died of Alzheimer’s disease, mom of breast cancer as well as my sister. Everyone had Arthritis in my family, however.

My arthritis is in remission, how often can one say that?

And my neurologist said I aced my last test as the previous one showed loss of cognition.

Cat Bordhi told me that knitting is taught in schools in Europe as it raises test scores overall. Perhaps our educational system needs to pay attention. Knitting turns out to be a good part to teach children all they can be, and in the meanwhile that those who are aging, to hold onto who they are. Seems grandparents and grandchildren are supposed to be together. Now studies help prove that knitting is chicken soup for the soul.

The piece of art which we continually work on is us. Knitting is helping those who study the brain to see that our brain stays healthy by doing things. In time aging will affect us all.

Loving what you do is healthy for us, taking some time for ourselves is essential so we can give to others.

I’m just learning, so this could be the right place. Hope so. Nigel

Welcome Nigel! It could just be. We’ll be happy to help with any questions or problems, and we’ll be happy to have your comments as well. There are lots of helpful videos at the top of the page that are a good place to begin.

Hello everybody! Name is Dennis. I just started knitting almost a year ago. I love it.:cheering:

Welcome Dennis! We do have many men knitters here in the forums even if some are hiding under their forum name. By the way my brother-in-law’s name is Dennis.

why thank you for the nice welcome…:cheering: :cheering:

Hello, im new here. This forum is so nice ^^ :))))))

Welcome RandomLetters In Order XD! Unusual name choice, I must say. Mine describes how I feel about the flowers I grow.

i wish there were less hiders - i see plenty of guys on KH’s ravelry page, but not many of them on the KH site.

Hi, I’m new to the forum too. I found this place while searching Google for loom knitting forums.

I just started using the knitting looms. I have knitted & crocheted the traditional way for many many years. Have given most away as gifts rather than keep for myself.

I’m from Texas, female, married for almost 37 yrs (in March) and have 1 son & daughter-n-law who live in Alaska. My main hobbies are my parrots & dogs.

I shall go look around the forum before I head to bed for my nap. I work at night, 12 hr shifts and today is my first day off for my 4 day cycle. I’ve been up for 21 hrs & getting quite sleepy.

See ya’ll down yonder a ways. Somewhere among the ravels & turns of soft thread waiting to be adored by the crafty click of knitting needles within these forum walls.

Welcome aboard!

Thanks sallybode. I’m enjoying looking around & reading interesting topics I find.

I’m lucky found this forum. Will explore more useful thread in my spare time…
