hi, i am patrick from canada. I found this link https://forum.knittinghelp.com/ in whatsup, one of my friend sented to me to join here for chit chats.
Hi y’all! I see this post I am replying to (my first post) is dated 2004? Maybe I did something wrong.
I have a first question: Do you count the cast on loops as a ‘row 1’?
Welcome to KnittingHelp!
The cast on loops are generally not considered a row. You can find videos especially for long tail cast ons that say this cast on counts as a row but most patterns do not count it.
If your pattern specifically says to count the cast on as row 1 then go by that but the usual rule is not to count the cast on row.
Hello! I am new to the site having found an answer
To my knitting problem on this forum. Very happy and lovely to have found a group of fellow knitters.
Hi Everyone,
I’m not exactly new to the forum but new to this thread. I’ve been knitting for 60 years and apparently not correctly (my left-handed mom taught me when I was 12). Still, after dozens of sweaters, leg warmers, and hats, including many Aran patterns, I don’t think I’m going to change now. I really appreciate the fast help I get here “translating” British to American knit-speak.
Welcome Jane5 and jfd!
I’m glad you found an answer, Jane5.
jfd, happy to formally welcome you and your wealth of experience here. I’m left handed like your mom but learned to knit from a right-handed lady.
We’re happy to have you both join us.
Hi, I am new to this site but not to knitting. I would like you all to enjoy and have a great day of knitting!! Happy knitting
Hi…I’m a new subscriber. I live near a small village - very rural. When I am ‘stuck’ with a knitting problem, I will appreciate access to your forum.

Welcome adebm, yoshiloli10 and mirhedd!
Glad to have you join the forum to ask questions or help with replies.
My wife is the knitter but can’t cope with technology so it’s my job to pass on her queries. She is quite experienced so hopefully will not have too many.
I browsed some of the posts before registering and was very impressed by them. Will now post the problem that led to rinding this website
Welcome to the forum!
You are a good sidekick indeed. Glad to have you and your wife join us.
Hi, I’m Susan
I’m not new to knitting, but using a circular needle for the first time and fning it a bit challenging. Very happy to find this site.
