Weird garter stitch problems!

Hello everyone! I do not consider myself a beginner when it comes to knitting, but something is wrong and I have no clue what I’m doing incorrectly!

I am working on a shawl.
The last stitch of each row is always Sl1 wiyf.
Other than the eyelet rows, the rest of the shawl is done in Garter.
Simple, right??

On the edges of the garment there are patches of the garter that don’t look right, even though I didn’t notice doing anything wrong while I knit them. Did I twist stitches accidentally? What is going on???

If anyone can shed some light on this for me, I’d really really appreciate it!!!:muah:

Are you slipping the stitch at the end as if to purl (putting the needles tip-to-tip and sliding the stitch from one to the other)? Slipping as if to knit might be causing the twist. I think the large size needles and the open fabric are accentuating the twist too.

Thank you for the idea, but it turns out everything was fine. What was happening was that the inactive yarn would get cinched tight and pull all the stitched flat. It’s fixable!
