I am making my first pair of socks. I am in the process of weaving in the ends and was wondering what length people use to weave in the ends?
Thanks!!!
I usually leave 5-6 inches so it’s easy to work with. I’ll weave in 4-6 stitches in one diagonal direction, then either go 3-4 in an angle to that, or 3-4 back the same way. Cut it off at just a 1/4" or so.
I leave mine @ 5-6" too then weave in about 1/2 of that.
If I weave the tops in- the pair I am wearing right now still has the long tail cast on flapping in the breeze. Probably should finish them at some point instead of just tucking them in!
Thanks so much!
This first pair of socks is my “experimental” pair to learn on. So far it is going well, although I didn’t like the toe directions I used (found another one that I will try next time).
Now onto the second sock!
Thank you!
Oh, at the toes, I make sure to do the weaving on the top of the foot, not the bottom - just in case the little bit of extra bulk is lumpy to walk on.
Just to add my agreement…I use 5-6 inches as well. It’s a lot easier to work with than a short one. If you do cut it too short though it can be done but it’s fiddly.
