Weaving In Ends Behind Wrong Color

So I’ve searched everywhere and I can’t find a solution to this! I know how to weave in ends, and typically I know you should only weave in your tails behind the same color yarn.
But what if I’m doing say a duplicate stitch, and I’m not stitching on enough to weave in my ends behind the same color? I have done it behind a different color, and sometimes I can do it well, but sometimes it will show through a little bit.
Does anybody know the best way to deal with this?

Thank you!!

This is difficult. There are many recommendations for weaving in ends in different directions but every now and again they may show through especially dark yarn tails against a white background. I try to check on the RS to make sure that I don’t see them showing.
