Wavy Gravy hat pattern not so wavy (edit)- got it!

I’m doing this pattern, but it doesn’t seem to be working for me. It’s not making that wavy pattern, and I don’t think it’s right that the stitch number should increase so much. I’ve only done 2 pattern repeats and the stitch count is, like, 130. That’s not right, is it? (Should there still be 72 stitches, or more, after row 3?)

Rnd 3: (k2tog) two times, (yo,k1) four times, (k2tog) two times rep from * to * to end of rnd

What am I doing wrong?? :pout:

Are you doing the k2tog part? If so you should have the same number of stitches. It sounds like you’re adding extra stitches somewhere.

Written out round three would look like this:

k2tog, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, k1, yo, k1, yo, k1, k2tog, k2tog, repeat…

Those 4 - k2togs decrease the 4 - yo,k1’s back to the original number of stitches.

it’s pretty much a feather/fan stitch. You’ve got 2 dec, 4 inc, then 2 dec so your stitch count should stay the same.

Hmmmm…
Alright, I’m gonna frog it :pout: and try again. When I did the pattern before, the round didn’t end on a k2tog twice like it’s supposed to, so I must have messed up somehow…
Maybe if I start fresh it’ll help… I’ll let you know.

When it’s on the needles, they hold the sts straight, so it doesn’t wave too much, though the cast on edge should look like it. Also, check how you’re doing a YO - it should be a wrap around the needle and there’s only 1 knit stitch betweeen each YO, not 2.

OOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

I finally got it!! I’m so excited!

Okay, so I am the hugest of all dummies. Pattern as written:

Rnd 3: (k2tog) two times, (yo,k1) four times, (k2tog) two times rep from * to * to end of rnd

Pattern as I was doing it:
k2tog twice, (yo, k1) 4 times, k2tog twice, (yo k1) 4 times

Awesome. I’ll post a picture when it’s done.

I like to think that’s a common mistake with feather/fan patterns. Well, because I’ve done the same mistake on more then one occassion.

Ahh right, you end up doing k2tog 4 times because of the repeat.

Looks like the same thing except it’s written differently… :??

Glad you figured it out though.
