I’m frogging again.
I reseolved the gauge, and I resolved how to work the stupidly long floats on the WS to get it wearable and neat, I didn’t even mind working from the chart which was too small for comfort but I got used to it and it was okay.
But I hate how it looks.
Somehow the colours are not right, too scribbley and messy and clashy and muddy.
I haven’t knitted a stitch for 4 days because I was finding it so depressing to look at!
The yarn I do really like so I need to rethink the pattern. This pattern is a lot busier than my original plan.
Wrong side with floats caught in, i was pleased with how neat I was getting it, felt like an achievement of sorts

Right side, yuck

I see what you mean. I wonder if it needs lower-contrast colors? The one shown on the pattern uses mostly mid-range values, which minimizes the “messiness” of the color changes. Your black and white highlight it. Might be better with gray or brown and cream?

You solved the long floats brilliantly, though!

Yes, you’re right there is too much contrast in the tone, and also there was going to be too much of it in that design. However, there is no black or white (poor quality photo though, it does look black and white on there), there is dark brown, coffee lover (a warm beige brown), sand cliff brown (a pearly greyish mushroom) and moon beam (a milky cream), and the the green is burning sage.
The 4 browns were bought as a set. My original idea was to use very little of the darkest and lightest of the browns, and mostly green.
A sort of torn paper collage design a bit like this, but predominantly sage green and instead of blue/purple I’d have a small amount of dark brown.

I had a problem with stitch fiddle crashing every time i tried to make my design so ended up buying a pattern to go with my yarn rather than yarn to go with a pattern.
So… back to square one as they say… or back to little balls of yarn. Took an age to frog with 6 balls all locked together but it’s done.
