I’m wanting to try something new for socks. Any recommendations?
Want To Try Some New Sock Yarn....Recommendations?
Anything Knit Picks sells is great for socks ecpecially the self striping yarn or even the DIY (dye it yourself) sock blanks.
I’m knitting some socks with interlacements “tiny toes” right now and it’s incredible! The color is super saturated and it has a nice feel to it. I also like misti alpaca, it’s so soft and the colorways are really beautiful.
Not to make your decision more complicated:) , but take a look at these http://www.yarnmarket.com/knitting/Rocking_Sock_Yarns-688.html and http://www.theloopyewe.com/browse/yarns/ .
If you haven’t knit with Trekking XXL, I would highly recommend it. I think it’s one of the best sock yarns out there (imho). They have great color selections, but most importantly they are quite durable hold up very well after years of wash and wear.
Coats & Clarks new Heart & Sole, (sold in both Michaels and ACMoore) is quite nice… it doesn’t stripe perfectly, but it has aloe, so its soft and a pleasure to knit with.
also in big box stores (ACMOORE) is paton’s Stretch sock–cotton/wool/nylon/spandex (80%cotton/wool) its sort of a tweedy stripe…
Of course, neither of these stores carry sock needles (ACMoore might have (if you’re lucky) bamboo DPN’s in size 2 or 3, (and a 16 inch circ) but they are beginning to carry sock yarn once again!
I am personally addicted to Southwest Trading Co.'s TOFUties. They have great mulit-colored yarn and best of all it is machine washable & dryable. It is also very soft to work with. I have also used the Trekking yarn & that is great too.
Didn’t know about the new Coats & Clark yarn at Micheal’s. HMMM, I see a trip sometime this week. :teehee:
