Virtual Knitting Challenge - DEBRA charity

Hi there
I’m Kelly from DEBRA UK DEBRA UK - we are a national charity supporting those living with the extremely painful genetic skin condition, epidermolysis bullosa (EB), also known as butterfly skin.

I wanted to gauge the knitting communities’ thoughts about a virtual knit-a-thon/knitting challenge we are hoping to run throughout November. We thought it would be a nice idea to ask people to knit butterflies with the link to ‘butterfly’ skin. The challenge element is asking you to set your own target of how many you think you can knit throughout the month, and setting up your own fundraising page online. These butterflies could then be sold in your nearest DEBRA charity shop. Is there anything in particular that would make you want to sign up? We are thinking of offering a a tote bag, potentially knitting needles, a butterfly pattern, and the chance to win a prize.

I would appreciate your thoughts  Thanks, Kelly

Welcome to the forum!
Knitters are incredibly generous with time and effort. Explain the cause, offer a prize for the most butterflies or the most colorful, whatever and maybe raffle off a tote bag complete with yarn and needles. T-shirts for sale are always an additional incentive If you have a designer friend perhaps he or she could offer a pattern with some percent of proceeds going to the charity.
