Hi! I’m working on a vintage sweater pattern but I just understand these three lines (the highlighted ones), could someone help me understand what they mean ?
Vintage sweater
Welcome to KH!
What is the name of your pattern and designer?
I’m assuming you have the right side or public side of the knitting facing you ready to knit a row. You’re to work across the first set of sts (30sts for the small size for example), bind off the next 14sts for the center neck on the small size then work to the end of row. Now you’re to work on one shoulder only (the right shoulder as you would wear the sweater).
Work back across the 30sts, turn and bind off 2sts. This will be at the neck edge.
Work across the row to the end, turn and work back to the neck edge and turn. Bind off 2sts and work to the end of row. Continue like this until 24sts are left for this shoulder.
Now work until 8" in length and then bind off 12sts this time from the armhole edge. This will be the begining of a wrong side row. On the next wrong side row, repeat the bind off of 12sts from the shoulder edge. This will finish off the shoulder sts for the right shoulder.
For the back you’re to bind off 12sts at the begining of the row, work to the end of row, turn and again bind off 12sts then work to the end of row. Repeat until there are 26sts remaining.
If the pattern has a schematic or a clear photograph of the garment, looking at that will also help you see what needs to happen at these points.
If there is no schematic, you can look up a similar pattern that does have one.
Thank you @salmonmac ! As I said it is a vintage pattern so I don’t know exactly who the designer is but the pattern is “man of action pullover pattern #357” and I found it on freevintageknitting.com
I love the name! Very nice looking pullover.

Vintage sweaters are a timeless fashion statement that blends nostalgia with contemporary style. Whether they feature classic patterns like argyle, stripes, or bold logo designs, these sweaters evoke a sense of comfort and history. Many people appreciate the unique craftsmanship of vintage pieces, often made from higher-quality materials like wool or cashmere.
