Help!! I’m working on a vintage sweater I found, and the pattern calls for me to repeat an ss4 stitch a couple of times, so it’s not something I can fake. Anyone have any suggestions? I can’t find anything online. For reference, the pattern is circa 1940s.
Vintage Knitting Help???
Welcome to KH!
Can you give us the name or number of the pattern or a link to an online source? It would help to see a photo of the finished sweater.
Ss can be a slip stitch but without seeing the sweater it’s difficult to say.

Sorry, started school and got caught up with homework. Here’s the pattern I’m following. My mom (also a knitter) thinks it’s 4 slip stitches in a row, but that doesn’t add up to how many stiches are on my needle.
Ah, ss is seed stitch. It’s the pebbled pattern that you see in the two columns with the pockets. Here’s a video for it but it’s even simpler to work than the written pattern suggests.
Work (k1p1) across the row. On the next row knit the sts that look like bumps and purl the sts that look like Vs. You’ll be reading your knitting which is a valuable ability to have.
It looks like 4sts each in the two columns so the stitch count is 8sts total which should make sense with your sts on the needle. If not come back and let us know. It may help to put markers on either side of the 4 stitch panels to make sure you don’t knit past them.
Always good to put school first.
