Vintage Afghan Pattern

Hello, need help with this instruction: The next 76 rows-K center 33 sts. plain stockinette, continuing borders at sides.
The cast on is 65 stitches and this instruction starts after 84 rows. The border is a cable stitch. I’m thinking continue with first row going in16 stitches then the K center 33 sts then the last 16 stitches are the the cable. If I do it this way it’s a lot of counting stitches and can be confusing at the end of the row??? Not sure I’m on the right track. Hope I’ve been clear?? Thank you to whoever can help.

Welcome to KH. What pattern are you using? I’d place markers for the 33 stockinette center stitches, one after the first 16 sts and one after the 33 in the middle. That helps with counting as the border is separated by a marker.

It will be lot easier to use markers as GG suggest to separate middle stitches from border cable ones.
Good luck with your project

Thank you, The pattern is Bernat’s Afghan Worsted Style No 3058.
My mom made it for my wedding in 1982. Now my daughter is getting married so I wanted to try and make the same pattern for her.

My mom passed over 18 years now.

Thank you, Helen
