Vignette cardigan from reclaimed wool

Have just finished knitting the Vignettecardigan by Amy Herzog. A great pattern which looks great.

I used wool from a 1980s jumper that DH was never going to wear again. I couldn’t work out if it was 4 or 5 ply using WPI but determined from gauge swatches that using 3.5mm needles that I need to knit a size J 50.75 to achieve a size D 36.5 Knitted additional rows from those stated in pattern to obtain required length.

Further details if needed can be found on my Ravelry page. Made good use of lifelines as can be seen in the last photos. Also use the light colour thread to highlight pattern repeats and where increases/decreases are so that I can match front and back pieces.

GORGEOUS cardigan!!! Is this your first cardigan/sweater?

Thanks, this is my 2nd cardigan and I have done two sweaters. Have just finished going around in circles knitting a cowl (blocking at the moment so will post photos in a few days) and now I’m going around in circles knitting more socks.

The pattern is beautiful, very well done!

Really lovely cardigan with very pretty details. Very nicely done!
Isn’t it fun to re-purpose yarn and make something you’ll wear and love?

It is really lovely

Socks sound like fun!!! Good Luck!

Beautiful!!

I admire you! It’s really a beautiful cardigan! I’ve always thought about reclaiming the yarn from sweaters I don’t wear much anymore, but I’ve yet to do so.

Do you have any tips about your process of “reclaiming”? How did you do it? I’m very interested!

Was your reclaimed yarn really curly? You stated that the jumper was knit in 1980! My goodness!
