Help,

Seemed to be having trouble understanding the directions on this pattern.Completed all steps for medium length and ended with correct number of stitches! But when I move to first shoulder steps …it says continue in pattern from cast on row for 4 - 5 1/2 in. Fine BUT, do I follow the stated pattern for medium length or do I just work the 3/3 cable and 5/5 cable pattern? I have completed 3 rows and upon looking at future directions it seems I have 3 extra stitches…

What is the name of your pattern and which size are you making (1st, 2nd,3rd…)?

Follow the set up of cables and knit or purl sts as given in this row for the complete 238sts (this is the row before the continue for 4" instruction). This row gives you the placement of the cables and for the other sts, knit the knits and purl the purls as they present (knit the Vs and purl the bumps).

Next Row: Cast on 88 (85, 82, 79, 76, 73) sts, working across cast-on sts, p4, beg with Row 2, (work 3/3 Cable over 6 sts, work 5/5 cable over next 16 sts) 4 times, work 3/3 Cable over 6 sts, work Row 2 of 5/5 Cable over next 16 sts, (p1, k1) twice, k2, (k1, p1) twice, work Row 2 of 5/5 Cable over next 16 sts, (work 3/3 Cable over 6 sts, work 5/5 cable over next 16 sts) 4 times, work 3/3 Cable over 6 sts, k4 – 238 sts.

There are a lot of sts so markers will help keep track of the cables, at least for the first few rows. They should also help you figure out where the extra sts are coming from. You may well be able to decrease the extra sts without having to frog your rows so far.

Thank you SO much! After knitting row 3 and adding another set of kfb/ pfb I did a count and knew it was wrong! I unstitched row 3 and waited.

So, that’s when I posted knittinghelp forum!! This will be a real challenge for m but I love working through cables and new patterns :blush:
