V Neck sweater

I am making a V neck sweater and I am up to the neck shaping. I am not sure what to do.

The instructions read like this divide work at center for V neck. Working both sides at same time shape shoulder and neck. I am working full Fashion dec’s at shoulder and at neck.

Shape neck as foll. Cast on 1 (selvage) sts at center neck. Working full fashioned dec, dec 1 st at each neck edge every other row 23 times. No sts remain.

My question is do I make 1 selvage stitch on each side of the divided center V or just cast on 1 st on one side once.
At the end I am going to pick up stitches to make ribbed top.

If you look at the instructions it says 1 (selvage) sts. Its the abbreviation sts that is confusing me.

I think that you need one selvege st on each side especially since you’re going to be picking up sts along the V.

That is what I thought. Thanks for the fast reply.
