V neck cable tank

I am knitting Impressions Aran Stylecraft pattern 10010. It was going great until I divided the row for the V Neck. It says: Divide for V neck: patt 78 sts, k2tog and turn (left the remaining 80 sts on spare needle). So all OK so far
Next row: Patt to end - this is where its not working. I have tried following the cable pattern of 12 rows, so the next row should be row 2, this though doesn’t wor, the stitches dont match. So I tried continuing with row one when I turned. So row 1 of the cable pattern both sides. That means when I get to the next row (RS) (row 2 in the cable pattern), the stitches are again not matching the pattern.
Any help would be appreciated, I’ve lost count how many times I’ve unpicked these rows!
Attached is the part of the pattern I’m referring to and the 12 roes of thr cable pattern.

It’s possible to calculate the stitches that you should work across the WS row knowing which row of the pattern you worked across the RS row that ended at the turn.
But, there’s an easier way to work this. Look at the stitches on the WS row and wherever you see a V stitch, knit it. Wherever there is a bump or little collar around a stitch, purl it. (The shorthand for this is “knit the knits and purl the purls.”)
See if this tutorial helps.

You’ll need to keep track of the pattern rows so that you know when to cross the cables but otherwise, this technique will help out with the stitches.

Thank you! This looks like a much easier way to work out which stitches I need to use. I started to look at working it out using the printed pattern but found that confusing. The tutorial was really clear, thanks for the linking that. I now feel motivated to get back to it!
