Hi Everybody and greetings from sunny Geneva!
I’m finishing my first sweater and would like to know how to bo a V-neck and/or Boatneck. I’m a little clueless but curious . Can anyone help me?
Thannnnxxxsssss! :teehee:
Lisboeta, Hi, I must ask, aren’t you using a pattern for your sweater?
Hi Susan! Thanks for your reply!I’m using garter stitch.
I have another sweater in the making, but I’m using seed stitch and also considering either a V or boat neck finishing.
Not stitch pattern, but sweater pattern… Are you making it up yourself?
For a boat neck, you could knit the front and back as a square, and seam up the shoulders, leaving the neck straight across on both. For a V neck, you’d divide the front a few inches (2-4) above the armholes and either work the left and right sides separately or at the same time with two balls of yarn. On the neck edges you’d dec 1 st every other row.
Another V neck is a top down raglan where you’d have only a stitch for the front sections and inc 1 at each neck edge on every other row until the stitches on both fronts matched the number of sts on the back.

Hi Sue…sorry, I realized I replied stitch and not sweater pattern after posting my reply…
Yes, I’m making it up myself taking from another sweater I have. I figured I could knit both squares and seam up the shoulders, but I don’t want the seam to rub on my neck, you know what I mean?
For the V neck, your instructions are clear and I thank you so much!!
You’re welcome. For the boat neck, you don’t seam the shoulders very close to your neck anyway, it’s usually wide. Pin them together and slip it on and adjust wherever you want the seam to be. Another way to do it would be to use a 3 needle or kitchener bind off so the seam won’t be a bulky and less likely to rub.
