I’m going to try and make a blanket for a “boat bed” (v-berth). One end measures 2ft wide and goes up to 6ft. The length of the bed is 6ft. My question is about the increases. If I start with the 2ft end, will increasing 1 stitch on the ends till I get to 6ft in length give me the 6ft width? I’ve made corner to corner blankets before but never one like this! Thank you in advance!

I think if you continue in that manner you could got to 6ft. However, I’m thinking of my husbands boat and the V-birth isn’t exactly a 90 degree angle whereas the blanket is.
Thank you!
Do you think I should increase 1 stitch every inch instead of every row?
Interesting idea. What is your stitch gauge and row gauge with your yarn and needles?
I’ll have to make a swatch when i get home and get back to you!
If I understand correctly, you’re making a trapezoid.
So, you need to increase your width 4ft (2ft to 6ft) over a distance of 6ft (length of berth).
convert to inches= 48" over 72"
You should increase 1" in width every 1.5" of length. How many sts that is, will depend on your gauge.
Just asked my husband and he agreed the V berth is not usually 90%, but he pointed out that boats differ. A larger beamier (wider) boat might have a wider V. The bigger boats I’ve been on usually have separate berths and use that area for storage. Is this your boat?
Increasing less often would make it narrower. I think you’re going to have to measure and do some math though.
Hello suec, would the following be any help in caculating your increases?
Thank you all so much for your help!
@Jan, no this is a friends boat locate in Kanas City MO…I’m in NY so I’m going by her drawing! I hope she’s right!
I’m starting this tonight as soon as I brush up on my math!
Thanks again!!
