Long ago I participated briefly in CAP, and we did “drill off’s” where you followed drill instructions faster and faster, and if you faltered, you were “out”. I had been a dancer (ballet) since I was 4. I always won 
This kind of stuff just always make me think of dance without music, footsteps are your beat.

We do that in my AFJROTC corps. except tis called Knock-out. I have to say, i’m actually pretty good. But, one time, at school, like 3 years ago, we had the Air Force Drill team there, and they told us to make as much noise as possible, so we did, and they never faltered not once. twas soooooo cool. oh, and i agree witht he footsteps being your beat when you do that stuff though. They practice on that for ages…
I always love watching that sort of percision. When my brother was in the Navy he did that sort of precision drill exercises. I have pics of him doing his drills. He always had special things to do because he was so tall and so quick (he’s 6’7" tall) Thanks for sharing as it brought back some wonderful memories!
Nah, they’re in the military. It’s not dedication. It’s survival. They know that if they mess up, they’ll get shot!
Seriously, as an ex-drum major (NOT majorette, tyvm), I love watching shows like that. Of course the Marines are some of the best, if not THE best. (The marching band’s also easily the top marching band in the nation, long considered the President’s own band.)
What I liked most about that routine is that they showed a sense of humor in the choreography. That’s the best when they’re sort of playing around with the audience’s expectations.

Yes, that was fun! Almost wish we had a different view, they hold that “star” shape long enough for photos and it would be neat to see from above!

That is one of the things that I miss about being in the army. My squad et I won a competition when I was in AIT many years ago. There is something very exhilerating about the sharpness of movement et the cohesiveness of you et people that you depend on moving as one.
