Can someone tell me how to use stitch markers? The pattern says place stitch marker and knit to end - fine so far - next row knit to stitch marker, slip marker, increase, knit to end etc. BUT I am getting a loop at the back of my stitch marker where I have knitted the next stitch - if you can under stand my explanation - what am I doing wrong?

The only thing I can think of is that you aren’t pulling your next stitch tight enough after you slip your marker and make your increase.
When you slip your marker all you are doing is passing it from one needle to the other like you would slip a stitch without working it.
The problem could also be how you are making your increase after you slip the marker.
It’s hard to tell without seeing it. Can you post a picture?
I don’t know much about knitting but I am doing mittens that have somewhat of the same directions. What exactly does place stitch marker and knit to end mean?. Then mine says knit next row. I got that part but then it says m1, knit to stitch marker, slip marker,m1 knit to end. I am confused. If I go the end of the knit only row then make another stitch, how do I stitch until the marker? It is the next stitch! I am not understanding these directions.

I think you will be knitting on the next row but you start it by making a stitch, then knit to the st marker, slip it and make another, then knit to the end of the row or round.
I am sorry for sounding so stupid but all my rows start and stop in the same place. I have written and re-written a response over and over and they sound so stupid. I am not sure how to word it. These are the directions ( the part in red is where I am stuck):
Cuff
With 2 strands of Boucle held together, cast on 16 (18, 20) sts.
Divide onto 3 needles. Join.
Work in k1/p1 rib for 3-inches/8cm.
Change to 1 strand of Chenille.
Knit 2 rnds, increasing 2 sts evenly spaced on first rnd. [18 (20, 22) sts]

Rnd 2 and all even rnds: Knit.

I know this must be easy to do but I just can’t visualize it. How many markers will there be??
The marker is going at the beginning of a new row. The first stitch of your next row you are doing an increase, then you put on a stitch marker and then knit the rest of the row. You come to the beginning of the next row and you knit all the way around just slipping the marker from the left needle to the right. Third row after putting on your marker, you start the row with another stitch increase then you knit the next stitch with another increase,slip the marker from left to right needle and knit the rest of the row. Knit row 4. Start the 5th row with another increase, knit the other stitches until the last one before the marker and make another increase and knit the rest of the row. You alternate those 2 rows until you have 5,7,or9 stitches between the beginning of the row and your stitch marker.
