Using markers

I am a new knitter and am having trouble with a pattern that I am working on. I am making booties or trying to at least but I am not understanding. I am supposed to knit 18 then place marker, increase twice and place marker, knit to end of row. Then nest row i am supposed to knit to first marker and increase. Does this mean that I am suppose to knit at the marker and then increase the next one or increase on that one. It is a knit front and back increase. And then am I supposed to move the marker to a new place? Where exactly am I supposed to place this marker to begin with? Help!! :wall:

Adding this too. It asks me to add 5 stitches at a certain point then knit to end of row. How do I add these stitches?

Would you mind typing out those 2 rows? It could help to make the directions more clear. And when you add 5 sts, is it at the beginning of the row? That would be using a knitted, backwards loop or cable cast on.

This is for the marker…

Row 2: K 18, place marker, increase twice (knit into front and back), place marker, knit across. 40 stitches Rows 3-6: Knit across to first marker, increase, knit to within one st of second marker, increase, knit to end of row. 48 sts

This is for the adding stitches…

Row 4 & 5: Add on five stitches at beginning of row and knit across to end. 14 sts

Thanks before hand for any help that I might get.

You inc between the markers. Knit to the first marker, slip it, inc, knit to 1 st before the next marker and inc, slip marker.

This is for the adding stitches…

Row 4 & 5: Add on five stitches at beginning of row and knit across to end. 14 sts

Yep, do one of the castons I suggested above.

Areyou knitting little baby booties? Reason I ask is that I am presently knitting booties with the exact same instructions.

Mimi

Yeah I am. Are you doing the ruby red booties? I am still unsure of where to place the markers after I do the 3rd row so if you are doing the same ones and you understand it then I would love some help. Anyways, thanks for the info that was already given!

You leave the markers on the needles, not the stitches, and slip them from L needle to R when you come to them. Row 2 tells you where to put them, and you’ll be doing the increases in between them.

Thank you so much! That was much clearer! I am on my way to making cute little booties!!

I just finished the ruby red botties a few minutes ago, but found a mistake in my pattern under Instep and sides, row 7: Knit across to first marker and remove marker, slip 1 as if to knit, KNIT 1,
PSSO, knit across to within two sts of second marker, K2tog, remove marker and knit across. Make sure your pattern has the KNIT 1 (that I put in caps) . They are adorable, now I have to find little red buttons.

New Knitter Question: What yarn are you using?

I saw online where the original pattern was and people were asking for a way to alter the pattern for a larger size. Anyone here have an answer to that? I have a friend at church who has a 7 month old and would love to try these in her size.

Thanks.
