I’m a beginner attempting to knit a small hat. I’m knitting on a size 6 rd needle. The pattern says to switch to dbl pt. needles when decreasing and stiches too few for rd. needle. Can’t figure out how to do this. Help please.
When the hat gets too small for the circ needle, take one of the dpns and knit about a third of the stitches with it. Or a fourth of the stitches, depending on if you have a four or five needle set. Then take the second needle and knit the next group of stitches onto it, and do the same with the third (and fourth). You should have all your stitches transferred onto the dpns and can continue knitting just like you did with the circ, only you’ve got small needles instead of one continuous one. If you’re still not sure how to knit with them, check the Advanced Techniques link on this site for the video on small diameter knitting.
