Using a zip instead of buttons on a Cardi

Hi

I’m new to this site but not to knitting. I’ve recently acquired a gorgeous grandson so the needles have been polished and I’m knitting again after a long break.

My problem is in the making up of garments, I have no problem with the knitting but dont really enjoy finishing them.

I have knit my grandson a cardigan which has a zip instead of buttons, can anyone give me tips on how to attach it securely and neatly?

Thanks Ingrid, that’s a great help. Now I can finish it instead of moving it from one place to another and putting it off! lol
