Using 2 circs - on trip

Hi Knitters,

I am going on a 3 week trip in April and we will be in a van for at least an hour or 2 each day, so I’m planning projects to take. I see socks recommended as trip projects but I have never knitted socks and I don’t like dpns very much. Here are my questions:

Does using 2 circs make project too big for trip?

Has anyone tried Nenah Galati’s DVD Sock I to learn this technique, and do you recommend it? What about Sock II to do 2 socks at once? Do you have to learn Sock I before Sock II?

Have people tried the various over-the-wrist bags like Port-A-Pocket and GoKnit Pouch, are these really useful for trips and otherwise?

Thanks in advance!

well i haven’t ever tried socks and am waiting for Amy’s video and to finish some other stuff before i try but i can say i have done two circs. I just started on saturday actually and found it to be super easy. my test is always whether or not i can do a project while watching a movie in the theatre and i had no problem with this method. I was worried since i was using two completely identical needles (two sets of denise needles) that i would get confused as to which needle was which and i didn’t at all. I highly highly recommed this method!!

no experience with any of your other questions.

I am in the middle of doing KnitPick’s Two Toe Up Socks at Once on two circs pattern.

They’re my first socks, and it’s been very easy so far. All I have to do now is pick up the stitches for the afterthought heel and I’m home free. (This is more a test of my vision than of my skill). I loved that I could try on the sock every step of the way to ensure a perfect fit.

The toughest part was getting the toe started, but that’s not because of the circular needles; it would be just as tough on DPNs. It’s just awkward keeping such a little bit of yarn on two needles while knitting with a third.

While I could never quite visualize how two circs worked (or Magic Loop, either for that matter), once I sat down to follow the directions step by step, it was easy.

Two balls of yarn, two circular needles, and two in progress socks is not a very large project. I easily took it with me to the theater in a very small tote the other night so I could knit during intermission.

Go for it!

I am doing magic loop socks which is socks on one long circular needle.

Thanks for the encouragement you guys, I think I WILL go for it
