Need some help, not sure what the asterisks mean in this pattern:
Cast off 2sts at beg of next 2 rows. ***Now divide for back …
Can anyone explain? I know that the asterisks mean repeat - does above mean to repeat preceding instruction 3 times?

Without seeing the pattern right there (the rows before and after it), it’s hard to say but that many *s just seem to indicate ‘pay attention’. Usually you only have one or 2 *s when a repeat is needed.
When I’ve seen multiple asterisks they usually mark something they will bring you back to later on in the pattern. For instance it will say later, “repeat from the ***” or some other direction.
