It’s in North Syracuse on Route 11, very easy to find and about a 3-5 minute drive from my house. They’re mainly a quilt shop but they do have a room or two for yarn. They have a ton of quilting classes (one is for a bag that I just love - I think I need to learn how to sew) but they just started expanding their knitting classes. Here’s their website:

Let me know if you ever come down and I’ll meet you there!
We do get down in that area once in awhile but we are always hanging out with our son. I try to get my husband to stay the weekend but he drives down, visits for a few hours and heads back. My son lives in Homer and he works just off Taft Road on Caswell Street.

Thanks for the link to the Mission Rose. I’ll read their newsletter later.

I really like Mission Rose. Susie~Your son’s work is only a few miles from the store. You should stop in if you get the chance. I’ve never taken any of their classes, (there always seems to be some conflict with my/kids schedules) but I love their yarns. I like the store better than the other one I went to over the weekend.
Lisa,
I’ll WILL have to stop one day. We plan to go see where our son works too and haven’t gotten there yet. He talks of driving us over but we usually go to the mall and out to eat.
Thanks,
Susie
Festivals are coming up soon and I’m determined to go to a few this year. First is the Jefferson County Sheep & Wool Festival on June 16 & 17, anyone going?
Here’s the info that I could find:

The Stone Mills Museum just north of Watertown, New York
34312 Route 180, LaFargeville, NY 13656, ph. 315-658-2353
The Museum is located north of Watertown NY. Follow Route 12 north to Gunns Corners, turn right on Route 180 to Stone Mills. The Museum is at the top of the hill on the right, just east of Stone Mills (a small hamlet).
It’s about an hour drive for me so I’m planning to take my son and husband with me and meet his parents there on Saturday. Our hopes are to walk around and make a nice afternoon of it. I have heard that it’s a small event but I couldn’t find information on what will be there or what the hours will be.
Thanks, Suzie, for posting that. Not too far from where my parent’s have a vacation place, so I’m thinking of heading up that weekend possibly while oldest son and dad are gone on a Boy Scout event. Woo-hoo–it would be my second fiber fest!
This is the first time I wandered into this forum. I’m from Upstate too, well, technically, Western NY :teehee:. I’m from the Rochester area.
Welcome mks22300! Are you close to Hamlet? The Finger Lakes Fiber Arts Festival is there in September and I’m thinking about going to that one this year too!
I just registered here. What a great site. I’m from Syracuse area as well. I just started knitting about 6 months ago and I can’t stop!
I absolutely love Mission Rose.
Hi everyone & welcome :waving:. I’ve been more lurking than posting the past few weeks. Suzie~I’d love to go to the Jefferson Co. festival, but that weekend already has things going on. Do you know the dates of the Finger Lakes one? I’d love to get to one this year too. (If I can get it on the calender now, I have a better chance!)
I haven’t been doing alot of knitting this past few weeks except for a dish cloth and trying to finish up the second sock of a pair I started months ago. I’m really not liking the yarn, so it’s hard to get motivated to finish it. I did finish knitting the Harry Potter scarf a while ago, now I just need to block it and add the fringe.
Hope everyone is enjoying the great weather and that you all had a good holiday weekend!
I saved everything in my calendar so I wouldn’t forget!
The Finger Lakes Fiber Arts Festival is September 15 & 16 and all of the info is at this site: http://www.gvhg.org/fest.html
I should also mention Rhinebeck because I’m definitely going to that one this year. It’s technically called the NYS Sheep & Wool Festival and it’s on October 20 & 21. The info isn’t updated yet with workshop schedules but the site is: www.sheepandwool.com
I found this nice group to knit with on Monday nights too: http://groups.msn.com/KnitoriousSyracuseChicksWithSticks/yourwebpage.msnw
Keep an eye on the RSVP section for dates and times. I’ve only gone once but I really liked knitting with everyone so I’m going to go regularly now on Mondays. They do weekend gatherings too but I just can’t swing that with my schedule.
Thanks! I marked my calendar. Everything at our house has to go on the calendar or it doesn’t get done! I’ll check out the Syracuse knitting group. I didn’t know one existed. Sounds like it would be fun!
Let me know if you end up going to the Monday night group and I’ll look for you. I’ve only gone once so we can be newbies together! They meet in the cafe at the new Wegmans on Rt 57 and John Glenn.
I’ll let you know, thanks. I’ll check and see what’s going on this Monday.
Welcome Kim! I have heard there’s a few nice yarn shops in the Albany area but I haven’t ventured over there yet.
I went to the Monday Night knitting group again in Liverpool. It was so nice! I thought it would be weird meeting up with strangers but it was lots of fun. I am inspired to do bigger projects now after seeing what everyone else was working on. I think I’m going to make this a regular thing now. They all belong to the local knitting guild so I’m going to have to look into that more.
I hope everyone is drying out and enjoying the sunshine!
Hi there.
I actually live in Canada but go to Buffalo at least once a year. Does anyone know of any good yarn stores in the Tonawanda/Buffalo area? Thanks

Hi,
I am a Southern Californian who summers in Upstate NY. My son is stationed in Watertown. I have to be in Syracuse at least twice to pick up and drop off a friend at the airport. Maybe more. Still I don’t like to leave camp much once I am there.
The only LYS I know of around there is the Old Forge Hardware store.
I have a plan to knit(actuallly I have a crochet pattern I think I am going to use) an afghan while I drive cross country. The plan is to pick up a new yarn in each state and add it as we drive through that state. I need to find good yarn stores as I go.
It would be nice to meet fellow knitters while I am in New York this summer.
Allison
Suziehomemaker,
Thanks for the info. I will try to check out at least one of them on my next visit. I also go to AC Moore and Joanns to look for different ideas.
I am in the Toronto area but must admit that I have never been to the downtown yarn stores.
Sue in Canada - The Yarn Harlot is in your backyard! :happydancing: There’s one shop that she always talks about in her blog but I can’t remember it now. You should venture out and visit so I can live vicariously through you!
ahkatelier - I’m actually heading up through Watertown today to visit my folks up north but I am going there next weekend to the Fiber Festival that’s nearby. I love your idea for the afghan - my MIL crochets in the car when she travels too. I just stick to my knitting. Have a safe trip!
