Update on losing our jobs

That sucks but you never know, it could be a blessing in disguise. You may wind up in a better position than you are now. Stay positive.

Aww, you didn’t let anybody down. It’s a tough economy right now. Can you get unemployment or get some more schooling?

My best friend who is a single mom, lost her job when she had a 3 yr old daughter. She went on welfare and put herself back in college to get an associate degree in occupational therapy. She was embarrassed to take assistance, but she had paid into it for years and she took back what she needed. She came out on top with a wonderful job with a school district.
I know things seem bleak right now, but things usually do get better.

The last time my husband was laid off, about 5 years ago, he decided to get a more formal education in the field he was drifting into. He found a college that did distance education and he only had to go to the campus for 2 weeks a couple of times and ended up with a bachelors degree in the field of Industrial Health and Safety. He was able to challenge a lot of the courses and use some of the training classes he had attended per his employers request. The hardest part was forcing the state to cough up the funds to pay for his education. They try to force you into some kind of job training that only takes a few weeks, but according to the parameters of the funding, the money is also supposed to be available for longer term education.
My husband is nothing if not stubborn and we got the money for his degree, but we did have to pay for it upfront and didn’t ger reimbursed for a year.
Long story short check and see what’s available for education and maybe take the time to get into a new field if you desire.
