Unusual pattern question

I am working on an afghan pattern–it’s unusual in the way it’s written and one of the directions is worded a little differently than I’m used to…it says, “knit or purl the stitches as they present themselves…” Does this mean if the next stitch on my needles was a purl stitch on the previous row then it will also be purled on this row and vice versa? That seems right to me…but I wanted the expert’s opinion…whatcha think guys?

I’d knit the knits and purl the purls but I can’t wait to hear the real knitters answer this.

You knit the knits and purl the purls AS THEY FACE YOU. Don’t worry about what they were on the previous row. Look at them and just do the same thing that’s facing you now.
