I’m making this hat - - YES, YES I’m a glutton for punishment! Anyway… I’m stuck on some instructions. The pattern is a downloadable pdf so I’ll type in the instructions I’m having trouble with:
…work the increase as follows: Next rnd: *[K1,M1] twice, [K2, M1] 3 times, place stitch marker; rpt from * to end [130 sts] (there will be 13 sts between each stitch marker)
Here’s what I don’t understand. It says there should be 13 sts between each stitch marker, but when I total all the K’s and M1’s and their repeats, I get 18 sts between markers! ?? Right? If you’re K1, M1 - that’s THREE STS you end up with, right? You’ve got the K1, and then the M1 makes another TWO.
Am I getting something wrong here? 'Cause reading those instructions, I would knit one, make one, repeat, then knit 2, make one, and repeat that step three times. RIGHT?? 18 sts, right? Why does she say 13??
I thought it was the same (took me a minute to figure out what you meant by kfb). I’ll check out M1A or L… (Although I’m wondering why the pattern doesn’t say that??)
Actually, the pattern does tell you how to M1 in the abbreviations at the beginning of the pattern. (I also miss that kind of information regularly when I dive right into a pattern without reading every word!!!)
Dang, really??? Good eye then 'cause I TOTALLY missed it. And I thought I had read it all… guess I skipped some stuff. I’ll go back and check it out. Thanks!
Always check the section between the yarn/needle/gauge information and the CO instructions. That’s usually where the explanations for decs, incs, and special stitches are.
Actually you guys, I did read all that stuff. The explanation just sounded to be like a bar inc. But I’m new and now that I know there’s 3497 different ways to inc, I’ll pay better attention. lol
rofl! I’m glad you got this figured out! K, still need to laugh a little more… :roflhard: whew… 3497 you’re funny! You know, humor helps with knitting… keeps you from getting too frustrated!
I need some humor right now. This pattern is kicking my beginner BOOTY. I never knew what you guys were talking about when you posted whole threads dedicated to how to track rows. NOW I KNOW. This pattern is a little over my head but I think I’m doing okay. And I’m learning a CRAP load of new stitches. Heck after this sucker I’ll be ready to knit a fitted cabled sweater coat.
Lol! So, you’re going from a beginning knitter and at the end of this, you’ll be at least intermediate, right? Well, sometimes if you go straight to running, it works out better in the end, right?
