This isn’t really a question as it is a sharing of information. I am in the process of knitting two socks at the same time on two circulars, and I’m absolutely loving it. It is flowing really fast and smoothly, so I thought I would share things I have discovered in case anyone else was doing this.

I first made socks a pair at a time using two circs instead of dpn’s, to familarize myself with doing this. I did the simple sock pattern in Socks Soar on Two Circular Needles by Cat Bordhi.

I read the tutorial published by Sheron Goldin, which you can find at http://www.socknitters.com/2circs/index.htm

Organize your yarn. This seems to be the most important thing of all for fast, successful double sock knitting. Take your two separate skeins of yarn and wind them into a center pull ball. Amy has a tutorial on here showing how to do this. I think it’s essential to do this. Then put each ball in separate baggies with a small hole cut in the outer corner, feed the yarn through the hole and seal the baggie. This keeps the yarn very neat and cuts down on tangling the two separate balls.
-
Put something like a little red nail polish on each end of one of your circulars. This will help you to see that you get the right needle each time.
-
Mark one sock as sock number one with a stitch marker. This way you will know you have one more sock to knit before you go on to each step of the pattern.
-
Pin the two socks together at the cast on edge after you have knit down a little bit. This will help with the sliding down the needles. You want them to slide at the same time so you don’t have to hunt for the next sock at the opposite end of the needles. This helps your knitting flow faster.
-
Just pull out the amount of yarn you need from the baggie to knit your row and your turn row. You will unconsciously learn how much this is. This will help with tangling.
-
When it’s time to change yarn to the other sock, learn which way you need to pass over the baggie to keep it from getting tangled with the other baggie.
Hope this helps. And I hope it was the right forum!. I’m just loving this and wanted to share.
