I"m knitting two socks at once on two circs and quite liking it, generally speaking. But the two balls of yarn that I’m working from (one for each sock) are becoming hopelessly twisted every time I turn my work and it’s creating such a mess.
How does everyone else deal with this problem?
What I do is to grab the working yarn near where they come out of both balls. (Actually, you could probably just hold the balls themselves, now that I think about it.) Anyway, I hold the two sides up and let my work hang down like a yoyo (make sure you’re not in danger of the socks slipping off the needles while you’re doing this) – the two strands of working yarn will untwist. You can pull the two sides in opposite directions to help the unwinding along if you want. I do this every few rounds. After you get a substantial amount of sock done, you can tuck the balls into their respective socks to keep them apart. It takes some time to get to that point, though.
the one and only time I ever saw anyone doing 2 socks on the smae set of needles
she has center pull balls in the ends of the socks themselves
the streach held the balls in place
and the CPB fed the yarn out as she came to it
it was VERY intimidating to me
but I have gotten a few situations where that concept worked
like with this Mobius shrug/scarf i just finished
Well we develop a habit of turning in a particular direction at the end of a row, of course they will tangle if you turn, for example, clockwise every time. Try turning in the other direction every other row until your socks will fit a ball of wool. Or when you get to the end, instead of remembering which way you turned last time, look at how they are twisted and which way you must turn your socks to undo the twist.
